Ok so I know this would be a ludicrous question, but will apple replace my Macbook Pro due to a scratch for free? I still have my warranty. 2 weeks ago, they replaced my iPad at completely no cost due to negligence (I broke the screen). The ambiguity with that issue is the fact that it was stated in Apple's terms and conditions that they will not replace any Apple product with a cause due to negligence. Now, I really want to replace my laptop since it had lots of scratches and some bumps on it already.

Anyway, if you don't think there's a possibility, can you suggest any treatments to remove scratches?

Doubt it. Things, especially shiny ones, get scratched.

My car has got a scratch on it, but I can't see Audi replacing it.

I tried searching the internet for Macbook Pro scratch removers, and there seems to be some solution aka result. However, I'm not satisfied since I completely want my laptop replaced.

I seriously doubt they would replace it. Even if they did, what happens when the new one gets scratched? You can't keep expecting them to replace it, which they wouldn't anyway.

Nope, because I had the huge mistake of failing to buy a laptop protection cover. I'm aware that Apple offers a one time replacement program. That's why, when I get a replacement, I'll promise to take care of my laptop and buy a protection cover/hardshell cover.

I am trying to understand why you would even ask this question. Why would Apple asume liability for your negligence? Why would you expect them to? I would be ashamed even going and asking them these questions.

I'll just say I kind of hope not. It seems you've already had your one charity exchange - further abusing the system because of a scratch on the case just seems ridiculous to me.

My point is, why did Apple assumed the liability of replacing my iPad due to negligence? So, I'm relating that incident to a similar occurrence with my Macbook Pro - if they would replace it too.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you're very young. Apple is known for their customer service - they didn't have to replace the iPad - they did - and good for them and you. That was charitable of them.

I guess I'm flabbergasted that you don't see the other side of the coin that's being presented to you.

The thing is... The MacBook isn't defective, your iPad was albeit through your own negligence.

If they replaced a MacBook because of a few scratches and word got out, everyone would be doing it. Wake up and smell the coffee, it ain't going to happen I'm afraid.

Honestly, I don't care if it was my fault. Is that what the customer service is all about? Pinpointing who made the error? Come on, it's customer service, and I seriously don't need the heedfulness to know that I'm abusing their service, because, in the first place, if it's for a good cause, then why not?

Then don't ask here. Go ask Apple. I'm trying to avoid getting on a soapbox here - but people like you that are quick to put their hand out and have a sense of entitlement really really bother me. I would be embarrassed to ask Apple or anyone for something like this.

Sounds sarcastic, but oh my I guess I need to intentionally destroy my Macbook Pro in order for the staff to replace it then.

Ahhh - Thank you. That would be fraud. Thread closed.

As far as I know...there is no official Apple policy regarding replacing cosmetically damaged units...especially if someone was to go "stomping" into an Apple Store and declare..."I damaged this product thru my own idiotic negligence...and I want a replacement!"

Apple replaces things on a case by case basis...and when they do replace something...it's usually a judgement call...and due to Apples superior customer service. As far as I know...there's nothing in the details of the Applecare warranty that say anything about a one-time replacement program.

The Applecare warranty covers manufacturing defects only. It does not cover...accidents, negligence, cosmetic problems (especially inflicted by the owner), or batteries (unless defective).
