I have a MBP and I am frustrated with my wifi. It used to work fine, no problems, but all of a sudden it won't work. Here's what happened:

1. turned on airport... can't detect any networks (I'm dorming at a college, there IS an active network 24/7, I've checked) But the radar looking icon in the menubar is greyed out
2. ran kismac, nope same problem. See screenshot #1
3. "configurated" the drivers to passive mode like kismac said, nope it aint workin'
4. checked the network settings, everything looks fine to me. see screenshot #2
5. scratches head...

Can anyobdy help me out? Any ideas?

What happens if you click on the Radar looking icon and hold down the mouse button? Does anything pop up?

I would not trust the results of KisMac as it does not seem to work properly with a Lot of Macs with built in Airport Express that I have tried it on.

yeah everything pops up just like it should. Weird thing is that on XP the wireless can identify at least two networks but not in OS X. Another odd thing. Even though the radar icon is greyed out I can see a computer to computer network, and it says that airport is on, but in the system profiles it says that is off, how can this be?

The Icon is always GRAYED out unless you actually connected to a WiFi network. Turning on Airport does not change the icons status.

When did this issue show up? After the 10.4.10 update by any chance? My iBook and other Macs are opposite of any of my XP systems, I see way more WiFi access points in OSX than XP. That really is due more to the antenna and card in each machine than the OS.

You might want to download and try iStumbler. It is for finding any WiFi networks and really works for me on network jobs. With the Airport turned on see what iStumbler shows you.

Oops that true. Well i haven't used wireless for a couple of months so I don't know if the update affected it at all. Also for some reason the airport radar widger does detect, in fact 4 networks! For some reason it does not show up in the menubar.

The couple times that happened with me I clicked the radar like icon, a few times and they showed up.
