Your Mac's Specs
M2 Max Studio Extra, 32GB memory, 4TB, Sonoma 14.4.1 Apple 5K Retina Studio Monitor
Both have been on from the very beginning
now it isn't working at all.

That puts a different complexion on the problem!!

The only thing I can think of now - is completely disassociate your AW from the iPhone and the Mac by removing the AW from both iPhone and Mac. Turning off both WiFi and BT. Rebooting the Mac, possibly the iPhone and starting from scratch to pair AW with iPhone & Mac.

Wiser Counsell may suggest alternatives.

Did anybody suggest logging out of iCloud on all devices, then logging all of them back in?
