I recently bought a wi-fi booster to improve the signal to our iPads and internet radio in parts of the house which works quite well.

Now when the booster is switched on I regularly lose the internet connection to my iMac and get this error message:

"Another device on the network is using your computer's IP address. Try connecting again later. If you continue to have problems, change the IP address of this computer or the IP address of the other device. Contact the network administrator if you need more information"

I have no experience of changing IP addresses and am worried that I could lose the internet connection completely or the functionality of the booster.

Any guidance please?

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Make sure your iPad and whatever else are set up for DHCP and not a static address.
They shouldn't have their own IP numbers, they get them from the router.

Also the WiFi booster needs to use DHCP, too. Sounds like it is the one with a fixed IP. If that is the case, and if it cannot be put into DHCP mode, you may have to get into your router and block DHCP from using that IP.

Your Mac's Specs
MacBook Pro M1 • iPhone 14 Pro • iPad Pro • iMac Retina 27"
Also, try switching your WiFi off and then on again on your iPad. If DHCP is working properly the device will grab a new IP address automatically.

Thanks everybody, I have managed to change the booster's IP address which seems to have solved the problem.
