Why won't my batteries work?

Sigh... I must be missing something. I purchased Duracell AA 16 batteries to put in my iMac touch bad and keyboard. The doesn't work. What did I do wrong?

You did turn on bluetooth, right? (and you made sure to put the batteries in the right way I'm assuming)

As far as I know I did all of the above.

Did you go into system preferences and into bluetooth preferences in order to pair the devices?

Hmm... I dont' even know what that means. ;P
