Why can't I watch this MPG on my Mac?

Here are the facts: I have the DivX Codec installed on my MacBook, but I have an MPG that I cannot play in DivX Player. When I try to play it in QuickTime, I get the following message: "The file could not be opened. The file is not a movie file." But I *HAVE* been able to play this movie on my Windows machine in Windows Media Player, no sweat. I'd imagine there's some sort of plug-in or codec that I'm missing, but I can't figure out what. Can anyone help me out here? Can anyone suggest what plug-in I might be missing?

Thanks! :D
