Which Mini iPad series is updatable to latest iOS?

Now that we have sorted her activation issue we are thinking of upgrading to a more recent iPad mini. Which Series is updatable to iOS 12?

Unless you have a good reason, you should upgrade to the latest version of the iPad Mini which is the 5th general model. The older models aren't available readily and the 4th gen can be had and I would only go down that route if the discount is significant.

Hi Alwyn - completely agree that you should purchase the newest model iPad Mini, if in your budget - wife has an iPad Mini 4 (now 4 years old - see the Wiki comparison chart below) - her Mini should take the next iOS version, but will likely buy her the new model after the upgrade (should make migration easier?) - last week we looked at one in Best Buy, the Wi-Fi only/64 GB device was listed at $399 - hopefully as the holiday season approaches, the price might be dropped (will add AppleCare; also Best Buy is now an authorized Apple dealer/repair center).
