Which Mac?

Hi there,

I’ve been asked by my future employer to suggest a system to implement in a brand new creative services department.

Most work carried out will be on PC but high-end work will be carried out on a Mac – of course! The PC’s will be kitted out with Quark, Illustrator, Photoshop and MS Office suite. This will have to be replicated on the Mac. So, I need to suggest an adequate specification of Mac. At home I have a G5 1.8 GHz PowerPC with 20” Cinema Screen.

So, I was thinking along the lines of….

Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5
1GHz frontside bus/processor
512K L2 cache/processor
512MB DDR400 SDRAM
Expandable to 8GB SDRAM
160GB Serial ATA
8x SuperDrive
Three PCI-X Slots
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra
64MB DDR video memory
56K internal modem

I would want to increase the SDRAM to at least 2GB. Would you think this is sufficient? I can’t say exactly what is going to be produced but I’m aware that a good deal of web creation and Power Point presentations will be required. The Power Point presentations will be done on PC mainly. I’m sure Quark, Photoshop, Illustrator and In Design will be used on the Mac.

I would appreciate your suggestions.

Thank you in advance.

That sounds good:mac: that setup should be able to run all those apps simultaneously with no problems.
