Thanks Nick. Is that going to give me any wiggle room with any browser like firefox, safari or chrome? This mac is for our child to use for homework with google docs, sharing & printing etc

This sounds like the exact problem I was having last week. Simply purchase OS X Snow Leopard from Apple's online store. You can either wait to have it delivered or setup an appointment at your local Apple store, bring in printed receipt, and they'll update it for you. Cost is $19.99 link below

Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.)

Once that is installed you can get to 10.9.5 which I believe is the most current. Hope this helps

No doubt some will suggest hacking your Mac Pro to run Mavericks etc. If so ask will they warrant it will not be bricked. As Nick says Lion is the last official operating system as Mac Pros 1.1 and 2.1 whilst having 64bit architecture, they have 32bit firmware.
