I am currently rebuilding a new master boot hard drive front scratch and reinstalling Mavericks and 3rd party software. I am looking at better organization on this drive while trying to keep with Apple recommendations.

I've got a large group of fonts (thousands of fonts) which are not installed, but which I want stored on the drive so they can be easily installed for later graphics work with Illustrator and other graphics programs. So where is best place to store these uninstalled fonts. I of course don't want to use one of the default font folders as I don't want them actually installed at this point. I haven't seen any Apple guidelines as to where to store uninstalled fonts.

Some Ideas:

User/Documents/Fonts/
User/Fonts/

User/Shared/Fonts

I only use a administrative account on my Macs as I am the only user so I am not sure if the shared folder would offer any benefits.

Just create a folder as a sub folder under "Documents" or for that matter anywhere in your main user folder and name it whatever you like. Place the uninstalled fonts there. However, if it were me, I would keep the fonts, especially since you say you have thousands, on a separate flash drive or external drive. You can then copy them to your fonts folder when needed.
