I have a new magic mini keyboard and its set to British layout (I am in UK). However, the Option plus 3 key gives £ and so does shift plus 3. I can only get the # by pressing the backslash key!! Goodness knows where the real backslask key is.
Also option plus 2 gives ™ and not the Euro sign.
Its very confusing and I am hoping you can help me. Thanks!

According to this article:

...pressing the 2-key combo of Option plus 3 on a UK keyboard (just like you did)...is supposed to give you the hashtag symbol.

Only suggestion I can offer is...go to "System Preferences"...then select "Keyboard"...then look carefully at the settings & see if you can spot anything out of order.

If you are interested in the "Option Key plus something" variants, have a look at this detailed "KB shortcuts for the Mac". As you scroll down, you will see may instances of "Option plus..."

I have a UK Logi keyboard, Alt (opt) and 3 gives my # and with 2 I get €, I can only assume your keyboard is not set on your Mac.

There are other options within the "Keyboard Preferences" area that should also be investigated. Got to click on each of the buttons...and investigate.

For example...like you mentioned in post #1 of the thread:

"Option plus 3 key gives £"

If you're getting the pound symbol £...when pressing Option plus 3 (instead of the hashtag symbol)...then your keyboard mapping is not correct...or was modified by someone.

Check "EVERYTHING" in the Keyboard Preferences area to see if something is not correct. If nothing specific can be found...maybe try resetting the Keyboard to "Defaults".

As member "Jimmysb" mentioned above...Option plus 3 on his keyboard gives the hashag symbol.
