Where can i get fairly simple answers?

I have questions about my new ipod, like "Is there any way I can attach it to my PC to put new music on it, without having it automatically charge up the battery" and "Is there any way to get a splitter so two people can listen to one ipod? My splitter for my old cassette deck doesn't seem to work in ipod, nor do my old earphones."?
These seem like pretty simple questions, but I don't find them in FAQ, and apple/mac/ipod seems to have no site where I can ask somebody who represents the company who can give me an answer directly.
And a couple days after I bought it, I was told that i get ONE phone call in the first 90 days for tech help, so I'm afraid to use that up on this relatively small things.
I would call the store that sold it to me, but they also seem to toe the corporate line --which is, that there are certain ways to get help, but no one will tell you what they are.
Sorry to alienate you, but I've used a DELL and they have excellent tech support by phone and on line, so my experience with Mac is kind of scary and disappointing.

Yeah that's really weird... I haven't had any experience like that.. thankfully.

I don't think there is a way of connecting it to your computer without it charging the battery.. and Im not sure why you wouldn't want the battery charged...

Yep I have a splitter and it works great.. it's just a regular 3.5 male jack split into 2 female for headphones.

All my earphones work in my iPod also... You didn't happen to get your stuff from Radio Shack did you? They have special stuff and the stuff you buy from them doesnt usually work with anything except their own stuff.. so that could be your problem.

www.ipodlounge.com has FAQs, tutorials (called iPod 101 and 201), forums and iPod help columns. It is not mac-only but has info for both platforms and all iPod models. It also has tests and reviews of accessories.
