I just bought a new m1 MacBook Air last Friday, being my first brand new Mac, wondering what I should use to clean the screen and also the palm rest and track pad to keep it looking like new for as long as possible.

I use one of the 3M cleaning cloths, sprayed barely with the eyeglass cleanser from my optometrist. Not enough on the cloth to make it wet, just a misting. That's about all it takes. Never enough moisture that anything can get into the machine in any way. But frankly, I only do that maybe once a month. The palm rest stays pretty clean, as does the trackpad.

I do the same as Jake. I have several bottles of Lens Cleaner that are used to clean eyeglasses. I use that to clean the screen on my iMac and on our iPhones and iPad.

Make that +3.

Use cleaning cloths, sprayed barely with the eyeglass cleaner.

Honestly just a fine misting of water on a good quality microfibre cloth will do the job just as well, that's all I've ever used. Don't use ANY chemical cleaners, detergents or disinfectants (many of them have alcohol in them). You will have to change the cloth frequently but that's easy.

This is I think one of the Oleophobic and or Hydrophobic wipe on agents meant to restore oil, water and scrstch resistance of the surface when new. Care should be taken not to overuse these substances. They are designed to make cleaning with a damp or dry cloth easier but can build up over time.

The best thing to do is to hold the device such that the angle of the light source does not allow you to see the smudges on the screen. ;)

Agree w/ Ashwin - I've been using this product (pic below) for nearly 4 years - the 'natural' ingredients are shown in the second pic (from their website) - the product is slightly 'acidic' and is suspended in water - just a few spritzes on the microfiber cloth is needed - works well and there is really no buildup on the surfaces cleaned, especially if used infrequently, as I do. Dave :)

I only use a microfibre cloth. It the screen is really dirty, I may use water and a soft cloth.
