Hello,

In late 2010 I had bought a mac book pro 15in. I had asked for an upgrade for the CPU. I requested a 2.8GHz Intel Core i7.

If I go to apple menu > About this Mac or to the Applications > Utilities > System Profiler it shows that it is an Intel core i7 2.8GHz indeed.

Recently I needed to run the Apple Hardware tests and I noticed that in there it says that this is an Intel core i5 2.8GHz.

Does someone have an idea what's going on? Is it an i5 or an i7?

Thanx a lot

Sounds like an issue with the AHT (Apple Hardware test). About this Mac will show you the CPU in your machine. I would trust that completely.
