No one mentioned Perian? Makes QuickTime useful, and practically eliminates the need for VLC for playback (which in my experience is quite unstable. YMMV however).

I've never used it, haven't had a mac in awhile so looking forward to trying it out.
never used perian either, looks really interesting considering VLC is a peice of dogpoo on Macs.
Any recommend for a good DVD player with features? I never used my prior ibook for dvd playback but I will be using this next one alot (9 hr plane rides
)
