I can no longer check the weather on Dashboard because the widget just stays blank on all my 10.4.11 and 10.5 8 PPC and Intel machines. the 10.6.8 and 10.7.2 systems work fine. Is anyone else out there have this problem?

Exact problem with our 10.4.11.
Unfortunately, not solved yet.
If I figure it out I will post the solution.

Tried a few things without success.
Any other members have insight to help with this problem?

Just hoping Apple hasn't left us out in the cold. I understand it's a Java issue. !0.4 and 10.5 are no longer supported.:\

The problem is that apple changed the server that the widget uses from accuweather to yahoo. That's why the widget in older versions of MacOSX doesn't work, it uses different server which is most likely unavailable at this time.

Good thing to know, Do you think it will some time run on the 10.4 and 10.5's again?:'(

:( Unfortunately no, I don't think they will update it. Only critical updates may occur in the future for older versions of OSX.

I switched to my Mac Mini Server with 10.5.8 and no weather. It was there a week ago. It could just be an Accuweather outage. It might return.

For anyone wanting to get it working, check this URL and especialy page 3. Someone found a way to make it work!!! Amazing people out there!

This has nothing to do with Java, since Java is not used in Widgets. It's all CSS and HTML; nothing more.

Did you try repairing permissions? If they aren't right, it won't work no matter what you do.

That was also said in that thread and makes total sense.

One thing that worked was copy that folder they talk about to the 10.5 machine and also the Weather Widget itself. Did it from my 10.6. It works now on my Mini with 10.5.8.

Oh yeah! That works super. Thanks, now my 10.5.8's all work again. I'm new to this forum. I had a friend recommend it to me from another list I belong to that has become a waste of time recently. The people here are really sharp and very polite and helpful. I've really enjoyed my first few days on Mac Forums. I have a lot of Macs and I'm constantly upgrading and playing with them this is a great place for accurate info Thanks to all who have helped me. I hope to help on issues I know about from Classics, PowerBooks, to Mac Pro's.:D

Very cool. Glad I could help. I almost gave up but thought of that one last thing and it worked.

Welcome to Mac Forums. We are here to help.

Interesting you are into old Macs. There are a few here including me who are and have quite a few older Macs. I have a 512, Plus, SE and many other older Macs. Anyway, glad your weather widget is now working!

Post a thread in the right section on it and we will see what we can do. I own a IICi. If it was a IISi I know why the chime does not work. Speaker Contacts on most of them get corroded. Cya there! :D

Restore weather widget

For some reason this worked for me: i went to "manage widgets" and "more widgets" searched for the weather channel weather widget; as soon as it downloaded... my old weather widgets started working fine again...maybe it just refreshed it not sure why...
