I want to install MySQL - I am running OS X 10.5 but there are two options on the download....
  • Mac OS X 10.5 (x86_64) or
  • Mac OS X 10.5 (x86)
Does it matter which one I download...? I looked up about _64 but can't see anything on my system to tell me what I'm running. Advice gratefully received!

Closer than you think.

64 = 64 bit. There are only a few Macs that are both intel and 32 bit. The core 2 duo and Mac Pro Xeon chips were the first x86 processor that Apple used in its machines. 64 bit machines can handle exorbitant memory addressing vs 32 bit processors.

Either will work, but download the x86_64 for your mac
