VPN issues? Firewall issue?

I am using a Studio M2 Pro recently updated to 15.3.2. I also use a MacBook Pro M1, not updated to .2. I have the same Internet set up for both - Brave browser, Proton VPN, and sometimes Brave's VPN.

Recently, I have been getting in pop-ups for signing in to the VPN. At first, I thought it was Brave's VPN (they use Wire Guard), so I did restart that, after turning off Proton's VPN. I've had Proton VPN for some time, but have not used it until recently. (Brave's VPN does not give me an option to exempt websites. I can get by using Proton's VPN with some of the websites that don't allow VPNs (one of which is a message board I admin). For a day or two, the pop-ups stopped, but then started again.) I have been in contact with Brave's support, and so far we are trying to come up with a solution. Apparently, there is an issue with their VPN. I had stopped using it, and started using Proton's VPN because of that issue. (Confused, yet?)

Now, a couple days ago, my Internet connection keeps getting interrupted. I have tried turning off both VPNs AND the firewall. I can refresh the page I'm on by turning off the firewall, then turning it back on. This happens with or without either VPN turned on.

I don't want to have the firewall turned off all the time, but if it's interfering with the VPNs, then what? Is it possible that Mac's firewall does interfere with VPNs? Is anybody else having this issue? Brave has said that I am NOT the only one to have a VPN issue, but apparently I'm, so far, the only one who has had MY specific issues.

Just. WEIRD!
