I have the Mac Mini (late 2012 version) and just downloaded Catalina. Not sure if it's always been there, but I noticed the "Voice Memos" app and, since I do frequent phone interviews, would like to use it via the speaker on my iPhone 8+. I opened it up this morning and tried recording a test message but without success. Would greatly appreciate any suggestions from this group. Thanks. - MGP

If I understand what you are saying, I don't think there is a microphone in the Mini. You would have to attach an external Mic, probably through a USB port, to be able to use Voice Memos.
That is, if I understand what you want to do--record a phone conversation that you plan to play through the speakers on your iPhone. Be careful doing that, there are some tricky laws about recording conversations that way.
