I have been a loyal user of Visualhub for many years now, but sadly, with Lion the program no longer functions. I primarily use it to convert avi (DIVX XVID) files to authored DVD images. I haven't switched to a newer program, simply because I haven't been able to find one. Now I have no choice but to move on, so I would very much appreciate it if someone could recommend a quality application that can duplicate this functionality. Thanks in advance. :)

VH Update from Techspansion just for Lion

So, something broke in Lion.
Here's a quick patch to get VisualHub working again:
Download vh-lionupdate.zip

Installation instructions:

1: Right-click (ctrl-click) on VisualHub and select "Show Package Contents".

2: Place the three included script files at VisualHub.app/Contents/Resources/Scripts/
Replace the originals when prompted.

3: Enjoy VisualHub for a little while longer, until Apple discontinues support for AppleScript Studio apps or 32bit apps or non-sandboxed apps.

Also, try out an updated, patched build of ffmpeg by Rob Leatherwood:
vh131ffmpeg for VisualHub

It provides better compatibility and some impressive speed increases.

This update comes WITHOUT WARRANTY and NO GUARANTEES. VisualHub has been unsupported for years now.

...of course, if you were using the open-source version of VisualHub (ReduxZero), you wouldn't've had this problem.

It'd be really nice if someone took the base to VisualHub 2 (FilmRedux) and properly ran with it, along with the design philosophy and constant-quality compression techniques detailed on the SourceForge page:

So far, none of the "successors" have taken the paths I had hoped...

I still can't get VisualHub to work despite the script and ffmpeg updates. No biggie… I'm already used to Handbrake.

I just tried Evom. Sorry to say, but that's a world of hurt. I just ran it on an anamorphic DVD rip, and not only did it disregard the Pixel Aspect Ratio information (making the conversion stretched out of the intended proportion), but it has no option for detelecining/decombing sources that are telecined.

Still trying to figure out your issue with VH. Been so busy not had much time. I will try to get it running on my Mini and write down everything I do and get back to you.

Thanks. I may recover my Snow Leopard to a new partition and give it a whirl in there to see what happens.

Ok… had the same problems in Snow Leopard, so I came back to Lion and tackled it some more. I successfully got a transcode done by using the All Devices preset and not using the H.264 Encoding option.
