Hi,

After nearly 30 years with DOS and Windows I've recently become a convert to Mac and have never been happier. Who would have thought that everything would "just work" on a computer?

I'm still finding my way around the OS (now running Lion) and I am slowly coming to grips with differences between the OSs (and my 30 years of learned bad habits!). I have a house full of kids who I have had endless problems with viruses on Windows and one of my motivations for getting the Macs was to eliminate this problem (not many viruses on Mac right?).

Anyway, I have trained my kids not to download ANYTHING unless I'm in the room and can check it out first. I suspect most of my previous problems came from downloaded "freeware" games from those many dodgy websites with lots of popups. This morning I busted my son playing a Java game. He thought this would be OK because he wasn't downloading anything. DOH! I re ran the page and the JAVA pop up asked for permission to access all personal files on the computer. DOH!

We have used this computer for our banking/bill paying, so there are probably a bunch of cookies with info on them that I wouldn't want accessed. Should I panic now? What steps should I take to ensure I haven't "picked something up"? Is it too late? On my PC, I would have been reformatting my PC by now and running Malwarebytes! Not sure what to do on my MAC! Can someone offer me some advice (besides giving away my kids!)
