Viewing my networked WinXP webserver

Hullo All!

I have just taken delivery of my first Mac ever. It's just a lowly Mac Mini 1.25gHz but I am loving it so far. Having followed a very helpful tutorial on getting the machines networked, I have managed to sort out file sharing.

However, my main reason for getting a Mac was to do testing on my web sites before going live (I am a web designer by trade). However, I can't seem to work out how to view a site running in IIS on my XP machine in Safari or any other browser on my Mini.

Standard Windows practice of typing in http://PCNAME/ doesn't work. Neither does using the IP address of the server. I can't simply share the files as the sites use ASP and therefore need to be 'served' rather than simply loaded.

Am I missing something really fundamental here or is there no way to do this unless the pages are loaded onto tinternet?

Great forum by the way - I expect you'll see me around here a bit more!

Cheers

The IP address should work.

Does it work from the PC if you use http://localhost ?
Can you load the page(s) from any other machine on the network?

OK - after a bit of poking around and googling (!) I have worked out the root of the problem. On the host machine, the Windows Firewall was blocking all external connections to the web server. A bit of fettling however and all is working! It's a shame I can't access the site using the PC name and not the IP address, especially as the IP addresses for each machine are assigned dynamically at Startup, but I can live with it for now.

Cheers technologist for the pointer of trying another WinPC on the network as when that was refused I stopped assuming that the problem must be with my new Mac!
