• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Struggling here... I decided to install videopad as a step up from iMovie, but I can't get the program to recognise the camera - a Canon XM2.

This camera is readily recognised by both iMovie and FCP (too complicated for me) and imports footage without an issue. What I've seen of it, I like Videopad but I need a fix to get to be able to import.

The only device seen is the built-in FaceTime camera - screenshot

If anyone has an idea, I would be most grateful to hear about it.

Thanks
Mitch

Your best bet is to get in touch with their tech support. The program is freeware so I would not expect much from their support but you should certainly try.

Their web site has a FAQ but it does not address what hardware works or does not work. Obviously, if your Canon is not "seen" by the program it's not going to work.

You need to consider that both iMovie and FCP are well oiled and developed programs, so it's no surprise that both recognize your Canon XM2.

Plus, with VideoPad, you won't have access to Photos and Music should you need to add to your Project.
