Hello,

For Video post production/editing. Should I upgrade or buy new?

Currenly using a Powerbook G4, 80GBHD, 512Memory, 1.5GHz, OS X 10.4.11.

How far can I go with upgrading?
Would it be sufficient for serious Video Editing, if so cost effective?

On the contrast, for video/sound production, what would be most suitable if I we're to buy new (incl specs)? I prefer working portable.

Appreciate any advice.

Cheers

As far as OS is concerned the highest you could go would be Leopard (10.5.8).You would need a retail disc to do that not one of the system specific gray discs. Last time I checked these were going for well over $100.00 on eBay.

In addition to that you would need to upgrade memory and unless you are using an external drive hard drive space. At the end of that time you still would not be able to run newer versions of iMovie or Final Cut which require Intel processors.

Long term if you are interested in portability it might be best to look at a refurbished MacBook or MacBook Pro if a new one is out of the budget.
