Picked up a 12in powerbook in March and was under the impression that an intel-based powerbook/macbook of the same size (12in/13in) wasnt coming out for at least 9 months...I get an email yesterday from Apple and look at what we got..a 13in macbook...I called the store i got from, Applecare, and Apple corporate and they were all pretty useless to me...all Apple could say is we are always upgrading...I said thanks I understand that, but thats a SERIOUS QUICK UPGRADE...my question to you guys is would you try to sell your 12in to get the upgrade to the 13in macbook...all opinions would be appreciated because im extremely heated about this situation...thanks guys

i dont have no mac's
i do not feel bad for you. the switch was supposed to be complete by 07 and a lot of things are going to happen between now and then. of course they are going to put out a full line of different sized books before the switch is over. you think they would only put out the one or two different sizes?

technology happens. and apple is going to have a LOT of seriously quick upgrades considering the fact that they are CHANGING THEIR ENTIRE PRODUCT LINE!

I don't see how this was "seriously quick"... Apple announced months ago that everything was going Intel eventually. Just because you assumed it wasn't for another 9 months gives you no real foot to stand on and be angry about. You knew that Intel books would be out and you decided not to wait. If you really wanted one that badly, you could have waited but YOU chose not to. That is the gamble a person takes when buying electronics and computers. Upgrade are inevitable. Apple only said that they would be all Intel by the end of the year... and they NEVER gave any exact dates beforehand. They do sometimes give estimates or projected times... like by a certain quarter of the year or something, but never anything precise.

Does your Powerbook do all you need it to do? Is it fast enough? If the answer is YES, Keep it and enjoy it. There will be support for it for a long time to come.

I bought a ppc mini. Everybody knew they would bring out intel imac, minis, mbp's and macbooks. At some stage I've wanted everyone of these but what I've got does everything I need. If your powerbook does what you bought it for why upgrade unless it's only to have the latest thing. You can't blame Apple for the fact you bought something at the time that you did and fwiw if I had a 12in. powerbook I wouldn't sell it at all. The last of a great little mac.

Boo hoo hoo welcome to the world of technology. Honestly what do you want Apple to do, put up a big banner on their web site saying "DO NOT BUY POWERBOOK, NEW MACBOOK COMING OUT IN 3 DAYS"? Any company would have to be run by un-trained monkeys to do that...

I think if you can shake off the grass is greener on the other side syndrome, you will find that PowerBook you have there is actually a superb PowerBook.

I have one, I am typing on one and I love it.

These things are robust and dependable, and pretty darn quick too! With the Intel many major apps will be emulated and can't even hope to run as fast as they can on a 1.5GHz PowerPC G4 7447A found in your PB 12".

Ignore Apple's marketing trying to get you to part with more money, that is just what they want—use the machine, love it for what it is, and hopefully in a few years time when an upgrade would be a valid idea, then consider Apple's range.

You've got the nice aluminium finish, lighter workhorse there...

i have an ibook g4 which i just got in march and while i new the macbooks were comming, i really needed a laptop then and ive done so much with it in the past 2 months that i dont really regret the decision except for the fact that i am not happy with the screen.

I used to own an ibook but I always wanted the 12in powerbook and I'll admit I'm kind of sad that apple won't be making them anymore.

I kinda had the same feeling when the MBP's got upgraded for the same price. I got mine for $1799 (student discount) for the 1.83 GHz and now for the same price they ship the 2.0Ghz because of the 17" model. This really really made me mad. But I got over it because this is enough for me, and .17Ghz is really really really not much of a difference. Cant imagine how bad the person who got the 15" 2.16 feels now that the 17" is the same price. I would have to kick myself in the nuts for that one.

man this is all some good posts by you guys...lots of good info...this 12in is really a great machine and not upset about my choice, but seeing the 13in in my hands with that screen and set-in keyboard sounds like a great upgrade

That'll be Apple's insanely great marketing machine trying to draw you in. Avoid temptation. Spend your hours and days creating and having fun on what we are lucky to have, rather than salivating over the next thing you could have and never get anything done.
