Hallo,

When i use TextEdit on MacBook Pro(15"), the Mac heats up and the fan start to run.

Somebody gave an idea which to deactivate on Automatically graphics switching option in System reference must run well, i did but really that dosen`t resolve my problem.

Any idea?

Open up Activity Monitor before opening TextEdit and look at the CPU and Memory usage. Take note of these values and then launch TextEdit and see how they are changing. If the CPU usage percentage spikes up and stays up, that's going to generate heat around the CPU which will trigger the fans to kick in at a higher speed to dissipate it..

Well, i did and here is the result(attech.) looks the TextEdit use a lot energy, and really also it doesn't`t work well because when i type that goes like a Klag-klag, i means it takes time to write a Script.
I hope you`ve idea what happened there.

Ahh you have iStat Menus, excellent, I use that to keep track of apps that use up a lot of energy as well. I'm assuming that you have the temperature sensor set to deg C as opposed to F, and it looks your spiked from 65 -> 88 causing the fans to come on. After the initial spike of nearly 100% CPU usage, does TextEdit return to a lower number or does it continue at that percentage?

Traditionally I haven't found TextEdit to be that CPU intensive, so this is odd.

What version of OS X are you running and which specific Macbook Pro do you have? Also, you might want to grab a copy of TextWrangler (a free text editor) and see if it behaves the same or better. I've found TextWrangler to be a editor overall..

Also, the documents that you are opening in Text Edit, are they saved locally, or are they in the cloud?

Hi guys,

when i close the TextEdit, cpu get to lower number and everything works well.
Well, everything is in my own Laptop MacBook pro 15" with the latest OS(Sierra) i think it`s made in 2013.

Something else, just there is one document of TextEdit which the CPU spike, not another one of TextEdit, i want try to copy this document in a new one and the i`ll check if still the CPU heats up.

I let you know.

Is there anything special about this documentary (large size, lots of graphics, etc)?

Just right click on the document and select Get Info, what size is the document?
I think everyone else is on the same track here, there is something different about this particular doc making Textedit work harder than expected.
I see you have menu meters (so do I) what fan setting are you using if at all?

Hallo guys,

Is about simple document text, just there i´ve text, no image, no links, nothing special than text, really it`s kind of a personal dictionary.

An d about the fan, really since i bought that in 2013 i didn't`t touch the fan`s setting.

If there is any another question let me know?
thanks.

You didn't say what size the doc was but if it's just text I cant imagine that would cause a problem. In any case the sensor and fan appear to be working as expected, when the CPU gets hot the fan will speed up as intended. This would only be a problem if the temp continued to rise or the fan was abnormally noisy.
What does interest me is that you say (I think) that the app runs very slowly. Is that with just one document or all? Because that would suggest you are running out of memory.
How much available storage do you have on the Macintosh HD? See Apple Menu > About this Mac > Storage. You should have at least 10% free and preferably 20% or things will start slowing down.
