Using an iPhone as a torch

Yesterday I was fixing a shelf in a dark cupboard. Of course, I have a torch somewhere but the battery is flat and anyhow I couldn't remember where it was. I took my wife's iPhone and balanced it on the ladder. Suddenly the iPhone fell to the floor but was luckily not damaged. I think many people now regard their iPhone as their number 1 torch. But it's crazy to use such an expensive item in this way. This morning I found my 'classic' torch and put a new battery in. I bet lots of iPhones have been dropped down wells, into cavity walls and other inaccessible places.

I'll never use an iPhone as a torch again, other than in an emergency, and hope my experience will serve as a warning!

OK ... point taken!
But I'll keep a battery in my old torch nevertheless.

The issue is not using it as a torch, but balancing it on a ladder. ;)

At least without attaching it with some good duct tape or some type of safety lanyard...!!!

PS: anyone else miss the Canadian made Red-Green TV handyman show and his use of good quality duct tape etcetera...???

Hey Patrick:

You're behind the times. No more duct tape.

Alien Tape is it!

I bought some of that tape a bit ago. It has got to be one of the stickiest substances I've ever used. Be forewarned; it can be tricky to remove on some surfaces.

Thanks Charlie, I hadn't heard of that product. It looks rather interesting.

As far as I'm concerned, anyone who says "torch" instead of "flashlight" is asking for trouble. :D

I think you make a valid point, especially in this day and age... 😉

I was just kidding, of course.

I grew up watching movies about WWII, and the ones that were set in Britain always had funny words in them, like "torch" and "day-bree."

Kidding again. :)

Well, the word "torch" sure wasn't funny when used in any of the movies of the US Civil War and even later US shenanigans. :-(
