Basically I am looking to upgrade my MacBook Pro (Base 2.4Ghz Santa Rosa) to the 7,200rpm HDD (myself) and also the RAM from 2Gb to 4Gb.

What I want to know is which to upgrade first. Which one will show the most performance boost? I'm guessing the HDD will increase boot up time and load times etc.

Why do you feel the need for such an upgrade? Just wondering.

Because when I bought it I was going to order it with the HDD upgrade, but the lead time was too long to wait so I thought I'd do it myself, and also it's alot cheaper to upgrade the RAM myself too.

Yeah definitely upgrade the RAM first. What I meant with my question was, what are you going to be doing that requires 4 GB of RAM and a 7200 RPM HDD?

wrong and wrong my folks!!!! i hate how people thing that by simply adding ram will automatically make your computer faster and it is so not the story in most cases.

upgrading your ram only speeds up your computer if you are constantly running out of ram!. for example, you have two gigs of ram. if you never use more than 1.5 gigs of ram you dont need to upgrade because you will then have 4 gigs of ram and only be using at most 1.5 gigs. nowif you are monitoring your ram and you are constantly running out of ram and your swap space is being used tremendously then yes, by all means upgrade your ram asap and you will notice speed increases

HD upgrade will be beneficial for boot time and program startup times and anything else that will be read from your hard drive. but there is a problem here, the faster spinning drive will require more energy. energy that is created from your battery. thus causing your battery to be used at a faster rate

I concede that I made a mistake by jumping the gun and saying that he needed to upgrade the RAM first. But I also asked what he was going to be doing that would require such an upgrade. Once I got a response from the OP I would have given him an answer based off of that.
