Wanted to mention you're not upgrading the ROM...and ROM is not related to this subject.

You're upgrading the MacBook Air's internal storage.

As far as being able to use the "Blade SSD" mentioned in post #1...the answer is yes & no. Apple Blade SSD's use a proprietary PIN configuration...thus cannot use this Crucial Blade SSD directly. With the proper adapter...it can be used.

p.s. By the way in case didn't know. You could purchase a Blade SSD with the proper Apple PIN configuration...but cost is much higher than the Crucial Blade SSD + adapter.

If that is not possible, can you please give links for crucial bland and adaptor from amazon.in?

I dont want to buy the wrong one and waste the money.

I just checked the thread since upgrading the ROM on a Mac seeme an interesting subject.
And I'm glaI did because I have a 2017 MacBook Air that could use an upgrade from the original 512 Apple SSD to a 1 TB drive.
Did a bit of research and read a ton of reviews and omments, my take-away so far is that the "special" 1 TB SSDs with the proper Apple pin-outs that people have bought apparently don't work; there is supposely only one adapter that does work (which I bought) but when I teamed up that adapter with a 1 TB Crucial SSD I get a Kernel panic after a few days.
I ended up buying a different manufacturer's SSD which people said worked well with the adapter quite a while back, can't even remember which one right now.I never got around installing the new SSD or even figuring out if the Kernel panic is due to the adapter/SSD combination or unrelated to that.
I will try to find some time in the next few days to get more specific about the adapter and SSDs that I tried to add to this discussion.

Since you are looking for a 512 GB SSD, I would suggest you also check ebay - possibly for a used "Apple" one.
Although I don't know if buying a used SSD is a good idea - maybe others can comment on that.

If you're talking about the linked article...the "regret reference" is regarding when someone purchases a brand new computer...and DOES NOT get upgraded storage AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE!

The "regret" part has nothing to do with the SSD blade upgrade itself (Apple original or M2 SSD + adapter).

You should have all the info you need now...it's up to you to decide which path to take.

I read the reviews on Amazon. SSD has positive reviews. But the adapter has negative reviews.. Many of them has responded that their Mac has random reboots..

@krs has mentioned something related to this issue..

I installed a M2 blade SSD + adapter into a 2015 MacBook Air in my home almost 2 years ago. I haven't had any issues.
