iMac - MacBook Pro - iPad 1 - iPod Touch 1&2 - 5 iPods
Hi, hope someone can help. I want to keep my Macs up to date but I'm finding the numbering system combined with animal names totally confusing!

I've got an Intel iMac on 10.4.11 and a MacBookPro on 10.6.8

What should I be upgrading to?

A little more info on the iMac would be helpful, however, if the iMac is a Core Duo the latest version of OS X that can be installed is Snow Leopard 10.6.8. If it's a Core 2 Duo, Lion 10.7.2 can be installed.

Your MacBook Pro can be upgraded to Lion 10.7.2 if it too is at least a Core 2 Duo machine.

Thanks for the reply and info. Details are:

iMac
Version 10.4.11
1.83 Ghz Intel Core Duo
1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

So I can update to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 - can I then update it to 10.7.2?

MacBook Pro
Version 10.6.8
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 1067 MHz DDR3

And this one to Lion 10.7.2 - which I presume is the latest OS?

Too many devices to list
The MacBook Pro can do Lion (10.7) and the iMac can do Snow Leopard (10.6).

Hi, I'm trying to install Lion on the MacBook Pro but it has taken forever to download and then when I tried installing I get a 'forbidden 403' message. Any ideas? :(

At what point do you get the error?

Is Snow Leopard fully up to date?

Did the download definately complete?

The download had completed it was when I tried to install. The download had take hours & hours - I presume this was to do with the speed of my internet connection.

Is Snow Leopard fully up to date?

I think so? There are software updates waiting: Safari, iTunes, Security Update & Java - but I tried installing them & got another error message saying my internet connection was offline so I've stopped for the moment while I try and sort out Lion. Would any of those be essential to installing Lion?

Did the download definately complete?

It said it had and was ready to install.

I'd definately make sure you have all updates for SL. Before installing. There was a SL to Lion migration update that clears up a few issues.

I've installed all the updates. Now when I go to Lion it is starting me from the beginning of the download again - I presume this means it was never downloaded. Not sure whether to restart the download as it took hours last time :(

Sorry for the delayed reply. The download may take a while but I'd say it's worth it to make sure the file is complete and intact.
