Updates won't download...

I got my MacBook last January and recently I can't seem to download the updates, either Microsoft Office or the regular updates. They start to load and stall about 3 minutes and hang there for hours. Anyone, know what I'm doing wrong?

The automatic downloads that Apple sends start to load and then they stall and quit loading. I eventually have to stop the process because it will sit that way for hours and hours.

Repair permissions using disk utility or MainMenu, reboot and try again first

Do you have any other network issues with downloading?
