Unreliable charger contact Macbook Pro

I only get immediate magnetic contact about 50 % of the time. Other times I need to turn the magnetic contact over and sometimes it just will not connect until I stop watching it. Is this a common problem and is cleaning the contacts the proper solution? Blayne

I once had this complaint from someone that the charger couldn't make good contact with the computer. I looked closely at the charger input on the MacBook and lo and behold, there was a tiny pebble lodged in there! A little picking with a penknife and all fixed!
