I upgraded the HDD in my MacBook Pro today from the standard 160GB Fujitsu to a 500GB Western Digital.

In the process, when putting back together I found an idle connector on the motherboard - everything functions fine I'm just curious as to what it is used for?

Link to a photo below, it's right in the centre of the photo. (To the left of the top-left of the optical drive)

I'm not even sure if that is a connector, but if it is, it's probably of no use to you anyway :D

might be some sort of service/diagnostic connector

It was a similar connector to the one used for the keyboard and trackpad - was just curious as to what it was.

Initially thought it might be for biometrics or something, but I'm not sure if the Macs have such a thing as an internal device.
