Super Duper just keeps churning away and eventually just crashes (locks the computer up requiring hard re-boot) and Time Machine isn't even found. The only thing I need to salvage is my Photos library, but I'm unable to do that.  Everyone has been remarkably patient and helpful, but I'm fairly confident that this computer is simply a loss.
