I have had problems with hardware not working on Yosemite, specifically a Huawei Dongle E3531, and searching for a solution I ended up on a Macbeast site, which has various drivers and booting options. After installing the driver, following the instructions, Yosemite could not boot up. I could boot in Safe Mode, which took 30 seconds. I trashed the Macbeast download (it was not installed in Applications, I maybe removed it the wrong way) and decided to re-download Yosemite and while installing it, it refused to boot up during the installation process, stopping at 50% of the progress bar, only reaching this mark after 5 minutes. I can still boot up in Safe Mode.

What shall I do, I am new to Mac, and 500km from the nearest Apple shop.

Not sure what the Macbeast site is, but I wouldn't trust drivers for hardware more anywhere other than the manufacturers site.

Huawei suggests that this dongle is supported on OS X 10.7, 10.8 and 10.9 with upgrades. I imagine that Yosemite should be no different in that regard.

What kinds of problems did you have with this dongle? Were you running any prior to Yosemite on this Mac and did the dongle work then? Do you have a backup of your important data from this Mac? If not, since you can get in through safe mode, do a backup first and foremost!

Then you might want to re-start the Yosemite installer and do a clean install..

Thank you Raz0rEdge, the Huawei dongle would have its startup screen (used by MTN, 'n SA cellphone company) flicker all the time, and this gets worse when I try to connect, which I am unable to do. I have a new MacbookPro and iMac, it does the same on both systems. MTN could not help me with drivers, I got references on the Internet I should go to the Huawei site.

I would appreciate assistance with doing a clean install. Where do I find the downloaded Yosemite Installation Package, I don't find it at all. As I save most important files on Google Drive, and I am only using my Macs for 2 months, a backup will not take too much.

Oh yes, I did not have any problems with Maverick on either machine.

There are numerous links to doing a clean install on the web. This is one: How to Do a Clean Install of OS X Yosemite

You download the Yosemite installer from the Mac App Store and then create a bootable USB drive to do the installation.

Since you've already installed Yosemite, you should also be able to go into the Recovery Console. Then use Disk Utility there to erase all the partitions and create a new one for Yosemite and then download the installer and begin the installation..

I wonder if the hardware is actually compatible with Yosemite?
