trying to do a clean install of leopard and it locks up < what should i do???

i bought a new mac book with snow leopard but i am having to downgrade to leopard due to my recording hardware now working with snow leopard. i have already installed leopard but its not working right. i need to do a clean install and now it is just stopping in the middle of trying to install. can anyone help me out here? thanks

Did you purchase a boxed Leopard set? (black disks) Or did you use a Leopard disk from another machine? Remember, installation disks are specific for the type of machine you're installing it on. Sounds like you may have used a Gray DVD set instead. Which would be the reason it's not working right and now won't install.
