I've just set up a new iPad (14.1) and downloaded 'Linguee', the translation/dictionary app. But it does not work!
I use Linguee via my MPB (10.13.6) and an old iPad (9.3.5) but in both cases I access Linguee via Safari. It works fine with both; I use the dictionary, the lists from other sources and also the DeepL translator. I have not downloaded any of the dictionaries but only use Linguee when I'm connected to the internet.
I can get all of the above via Safari from the new iPad but the app does not do anything at all - I really don't want to download dictionaries because I will only ever use Linguee on when I'm online. It would be nice to use Linguee via the app!
There does not seem to be any way to get in touch with them.
Does anyone have any comments?
Thanks in advance.

A reply to my own query above regarding Linguee may help some people.

Of course one can access sites and services either via an app or via Safari to the website concerned. But I kept seeing claims such as "it's better in the app" and so with a new iPad (14.1), and plenty of storage, I thought I'd go for apps. But things were definitely not better in the app.

My experience with Linguee was repeated when I tried the app version of dict.cc (another translation/dictionary site). All kinds of things were missing from the app version of this excellent site. However, I did get access (via the web version) to the main man at dict.cc.

It was explained that the app caters for people with small screens (phones etc) ... all the information cannot easily be displayed on a phone. Also the apps make it easier to download and store dictionaries on the device itself.

However, I will only ever use Linguee and dict.cc from home via a WIFI connection to an MPB on the desk; or from an armchair with my new iPad. It was explained that in these circumstances it's better to carry on as before with access via a web browser.

So I'll remember in future that things are "not always better in the app"!

Thank you for your post, and its successor with your findings and conclusions. That will be very useful to others who encounter similar problems.

OK Ian ... well I've spoken to some other people and they'd also got sucked into this idea that "it's better in the app". Is it possible to change the heading of my post from "Translation App 'Linguee' (??)" to:

It's not always better in the app!

I have the feeling that I'm not the only person who thought that an app is always the best way.

Only the Admins or Mods can do that - I think.:)

Try to do it yourself by clicking on Edit, but I doubt you will succeed.;)

We could change the title but the original makes more sense after reading through this thread. We will leave the title as is.
