• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I have had the camera for a while now and have not yet found a method of transfering files from it to my iMac without transfering the complete amount on the SD card.

When I have taken just a few minutes of video I want to be able to transfer just that part. Is there any way that I can do this please?

My OS is 10.13.6. Late 2009 21 1/2" iMac

Have you tried Image Capture?

I do not have your exact model Canon but do have 2 Canons here and both mount in Photos. I have the option to transfer new pics and videos only. I believe I can even select which ones I want but usually tell it to copy over all new images and videos.

Don't know how you have the transfer set up but if you attach the camera or SD card and access the contents from Finder, you should be able to select individual items. Mine is set up to open in Photos but if it fails I do it the way I described.

If you use iMovie, you should b able to browse your clips and select those that you want to import.
