I've had my MBA(MacOS 12.7.4) for nearly three years. I've ALWAYS had Auto Login enabled and I've ALWAYS had Touch ID enabled(and working).

My Mac's now telling me I can have one or the other but not both. When did this change?

Having Touch ID enabled is akin to having a password set on your account. Having auto login enabled is akin to not having a password set on the account. So not sure how that was working to begin with..?

I've always had passwords on my account and never enable auto login, so I can't tell you specifics about when this feature changed..

Same here, I've always had a login password set for, after switching on, after waking from sleep, after screen saver begins or display turned off. I use Touch ID for all of those and or my Apple Watch.
Automatically login as...is switched off.
