To Yosemite or not to Yosemite. That is the query?

Not bad.
Just installed new hard drive and got 10.7.5 on there.

I'm quite happy with this OS to be honest.

Is it absolutely necessary that I upgrade to Yosemite?

I have read up on the OS and none of the new features seem to make me think I should.

Can anyone experienced in this field shed light?

Thanks.

If you are happy with 10.7.5 then that's fine. I use Yosemite daily and like it but if the new features aren't of interest /important to you stay with 10.7.5.

Thanks for the info.

So there's no real disadvantage as such to not moving up like lagging or loss of features, much like the iPhone and their excessive force to make you move up to the latest iOS systems.

Think I will just stay with current 10.7.5.

Pretty happy with it and the new features don't really seem essential.

Many thanks.
