This is actually a scenario that has been extensively explored in "Speculative" Fiction quite a lot. The answer is really nothing. Unless I want the burden of knowing the future. I say burden because I dare not change anything lest it have a flow on effect which could potentially be disastrous for either myself or others.
The automatic answer of course would be something like, who won the Kentucky Derby or the Melbourne Cup in 2020 on the assumption that I could "bet the farm" and become a millionaire overnight but think how many lives that might effect, not to mention my own and it brings up the classic paradox. If becoming a millionaire in 2020 results in my death in 2030 then I would not have been alive in 2050 to ask who the winner of the race was in 2020.
Complicated aint it?

This a hard question to answer because I do not think I would be around at that time. But if I were, how were things till 2050?

Maybe 2050 was too far into the future.;) We could always modify things...and revamp the question::)

If you could ask your future self from the year 2030 one question, what would it be?

I'm thinking a good question to ask would be related to health. If you asked your future self a question something like..."How is my health?".

Maybe knowing if you were going to have one or more serious & preventable health issues in the future...you would be able to use that info now & do something about it to minimize or prevent the health issue.:)

Funny you ask about health. That is a better question. :)

Nope, my answer would still be the same, I don't want to know anything.

I'm with Rod on this. I don't want to know about my (or the) future.

This theme was explored by a famous Scottish author, John Buchan (he of The 39 Steps) in a novel called "The Gap in the Curtain". Five people "know" that one of them will die in exactly one year's time.

The opportunity to have a momentary glimpse into the future provokes an obvious thought. How might you or I behave in such circumstances?

I'd rather not know, thank you.:)

I overall agree with Ian on this question but if I could look a bit into the future I would say maybe 5 years so I could see if there any Macs left or will Mac OS and Macs turn into IOS OS and Macs into MacPads! :D Grin

Well I gotta tell ya. Even if I could ask my "future self" 5 years, 10 years, or more one of the following:

- What the price of Apple stock will be?
- Will we be riding in self-drive automobiles?
- Will some automobiles still be on the road that use gasoline?
- Did man land on Mars?
- Any momentous health treatment breakthroughs?

...I would certainly want to know at least one of them!:)

Remember the question was..."If you could ask your future self from the year 2050 one question, what would it be?" The option to not ask a question is not really an option.;)

If you would rather not know some information...then just ask your future self something more mundane such as..."What's the price of a loaf of bread...or the price of a dozen eggs?"...in 2030, 2050, etc. Doesn't necessarily NEED to be a super-serious question.

Have fun with it.:)

I suppose I could just ask how the heck did I manage to make it to 96, and still be able to answer questions? I'm thinking there must have been some significant advances in health care.

I would want to know what health care advancements have been made.

I would love to hear they had invented a really cool pill that would let me eat all I want, not have to exercise, and I could still be in shape and maintaining a healthy weight.

It's not in pill form yet but has been developed. It goes by several gemeric names (scotch, bourbon, ale., etc). Thhese magic liquids don't actually make those things happen but field tests you really won't care that it's only an illusion. :)
