Does anyone know of any good third party firewall software for OS X, preferably Universal Binary/Intel? I'm looking for something similar to Zone Alarm for windows. Danke!

This actually is Antivirus software, not firewalls.

What's wrong with the firewall within OS X. It is mainly ipfw, which is a pure UNIX firewall.
Well, if you want of course something liek Zone Alarm, try Little Snitch. Personnally, it annoys me too much to have to allow every single service to access the Internet.

oh...my bad yeah i agree with Avalon. But if you need Antivirus McAfee and Norton will be good. But i don't think you need to waste money to buy them.

Agreed, IMHO, in would be a watse of money/time to buy/use a third party firewall. Same goes for antivirus. Use the built in firewall. Guess what..it just works! If you so choose to use something of this nature don't let me stop ya, just use a free version or go totally opensource. I'd just hate to see your money goto waste, then again it is your money and none of my concern.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate it. And I totally agree that buying a firewall on top of the already existing one would be ridiculous... I'll try and go open source or at the very least freeware. I just want a little something that I am more used to. I imagine I'll eventually just use the built in one once I learn how to work it a little better.

IMHO the default configuration of most of the commercial firewalls are either too loose(open to threats) or too strict(press OK/Cancel every 5 minute). Therefore even if you have a nice looking firewall, prospect of an attack is imminent.

If you are a Terminal expert, here is a good guide to configure Apple's built-in firwall. You can also checkout other alternatives in this list.

I use Little Snitch (not a firewall) to control internet access rights of programs which need to communicate with the outside world.

A lot of the third party "firewalls" are just interfaces with more options to the built-in ipfw. Cheaper to just use the terminal to configure it if you know how.
