Thinking real hard about a purchase of the macbook pro to take to Germany with me this August (I leave the 22nd) but I am wondering if they are still having the problem with improper application of thermal grease?

I will be a power user frequently hitting the upper barriers of performance on the MBP and I guess what I'm tossing in my head is it worth it to pick one up and reapply the thermal grease myself (I've worked computer hardware for 10+years, this shouldn't be difficult for me) and void the warranty or if I should leave it alone or even further if I should just not buy one at all and risk the issue of heat.

Is it still much of an issue? Are the heat differences that great?

Yes, we have seen at least one post where the purchaser of a new MBP had excessive thermal paste (just a few weeks ago). It will not void your warranty if you correct the problem yourself, providing that you don't damage the system in the process.

Worst case scenario is if you're having excessive heat problems, just take it into an Apple store and have them address it.

Well I plan on purchasing at an apple store beings the nearest places are sold out and I won't be able to wait for shipping to get it on time :)

I'm torn between letting it go and fixing it. I'll just have to see how it works out.
