The time has come...

Hi people.

I've had my trusty G4 350 for about four years now... It's got extra ram and hard space, and I'm running an additional graphics card, CD burner, wacom tablets etc.

Thing is- It's getting to the stage where my machine is really starting to struggle under the weight of all this. I need a new machine.

I mostly use Flash, Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver and After effects. I'd like to dabble in some simple video- but nothing too heavy. My machine gets mad heavy MP3 use, though :)

My G4 clearly has a resale value of about £50!, so what do I do with it? I'd like to buy either a dual 1.25 G4 the top end G5. Obviously I'd love the G5- but I wont be able to afford it for at leastt a year.

What shouldi do? go for the dual G4 now? or wait a yaer and get the top end G5? will I really regret not getting the G5? Is there anything i can do with my old G4?

and Ideas would be mad appreciated....

yo son... (sorry, i couldnt help it) i think you should hold off and wait for the G5's to come down in price a bit... im guessing by summer or end of summer they should drop a bit... and if they come out with something new to the G5, the "older" g5's will come down a good amount.

dont buy old technology ;) just wait for the new stuff to get cheaper hehe

so you guys reckon wait for G5's to come down?

Is something big gonna happen to make them drop in price? like in the next 6 months?

I can't really see it happening....

you could buy a faster proc until. Not one of those sonnets, just an old Apple chip from a parts store. :)

Cool- what's the deal with getting a faster CPU? Are they expensive? I'm gonna try and hold out till the G5's drop in price around summer.... any Idea how big a price drop there is in the UK? Is it worth holding out?

I upgraded from a beige 300MHz G3 to a 1.6GHz G5. The beige was just paid off in January with an upgraded ATI 32MB video card and WD 80GB hard drive. It was just time to get a new Mac. I still have the beige. Gave it to my daughter so she can play on it. Buy the newest technology you can possibly afford. Even if that means waiting for a while until you can afford it.
