Many drives involving catastrophic drops on the sides in blizzards, overheated brakes in summers. It’s all worth it.

of course after many drives through the Rockies my shock when I drove through Switzerland on an EU adventure. Holy those mountains are truly massive!
Yup....when you peer out your window driving on a mountain road and the clouds are below you....that’s how you know you are high up......

I thought it was only we Brits who went on about the weather:smile:wink

Just to keep up with our reputation:

It's currently 16C/61F at around 4pm/1600 hrs (GMT + 1). Sunny. Touch of rain tomorrow with clouds; 13C/56F. Back to sunshine on Saturday.

I feel better getting that off my chest:LOL:

Ian, not forgetting that a lot of your previous Brits emigrated to our country, many of whom continue to ***** about the weather and our government and/or their policies, not forgetting their b*tch*ng about labour and unions and wages another favourite topic that they like dwelling on. Many are told to go back where they came from if they don't like it here!!! ;)

Our area has been consistently overcast and rainy and cool since March, and unfortunately, the temperature has seldom been above 13°C, which has kept the honey bees in their hives and prevented the pollination of the fruit trees that they require to produce any decent fruit.

Hi Ian, I’m not that familiar with the climate of Wales...being on the ocean front I would think it is often cool and damp due to prevailing winds. Do you get snow in the winter there ( high lands excepted ). Patrick is on the “Left Coast”...so in the lower areas it is considerably warmer there...even in the winter than most of Canada.

My American friend likes to remind me that we Canadians are just a bunch of loyalists, but he makes up for it by bringing me some nice scotch that is cheaper south of the border than here ;) I like to remind him though, that we have bacon maple syrup butter tarts Nanaimo bars ketchup chips, and way better beer.

The only significant snowfalls we had here before and after my retirement here were in 2000, 2010 and 2013. Otherwise nothing. NB I'm talking about where we now live in North Wales (look up Conwy and/or Deganwy).

How much is petrol - gas? UK it's currently from around £1.58 per litre locally, £1.85 on motorways so that's £7.11 to £8.30 per gallon.

Yes basically 2 dollars Canadian a litre currently. It’s going to go up another 5-10 cents this week they say.

So £1.25. For the first time in my life I have an economical car (Mazda2, @50mpg) and luckily don't have to do too much driving. I live on Tyneside with a good Metro system - only 200 metres from nearest station and that gets me in to the centre of Newcastle in 25 minutes.

Monkseaton Station is part of the original Victorian rail network (as are others at the coast) so we have the cast iron pillars and arches, plus a pub opened in one of the buildings and is aptly named the Left Luggage Room (pix 1-3). I like that original buildings are repurposed rather than allowed to decay: next one, Whitley Bay, has cafés/wine bar, Cullercoats has shops and Tynemouth, three stops away, has a restauratnt, a pub and some offices. There's an art/craft/vintage/street food market on the platforms every Sat/Sun throughout the year which is a big draw for locals and tourists. Last photo is my dog hoping he will get a bit of sausage sandwich!

we have a '19 Toyota rav4 awd we got the summer before the pandemic. I had wanted at the time to go hybrid but was outvoted at the time, but we'll trade when the time is right and there's better inventory. But we aren't driving much at the moment. I think I just crossed 6k on this thing because of the pandemic it's barely broken in. But for it's size, it get amazing gas mileage.
