I never really look for helpful widgets in Mac.... I guess I should.. are there any nice open new tab apps that are especially useful.... ???
right now when I open a second tab it just duplicates the first one and then I change it... that's ok but could be better..

Are you talking about opening a new tab in a browser? I don't understand what you are asking for?

Is this a "Switcher" topic?

What browser?

You can right click on links to open in a new tab.

Traditionally browser tabs are either the home page, empty page, search or something else, they never duplicate an existing tab.

I think the OP is talking about Finder tabs where the new tab always mimics the previous tab.

How would a different tab be selected automatically? There are so many to choose from. I can't imagine such a feature being customizable enough to read my mind and open the second tab to something I want at a given moment.

I think we need the OP (456) to confirm that it is Finder that he/she means and elucidate exactly what they were hoping for.

Tabs in the Finder window are really handy. I used to just open another Finder widow when working between directorieS. Then I discovered the Overview function which is a little like Expose for the Finder. I often think the Finder is a bit underated and overlooked. But think as I may I can't think of a Finder app or what it might do to extend the existing functions of the Finder. What were you thinking of 456? Did you have something in mind?

how interesting these replies...the world really has changed...should interest a sociologist..
anyway I meant when you click the + sign in Safari for"create a new tab". it just duplicates the tab that is open. Then you can use search or a bookmark to go to a certain page...Not talking about the Finder...I rarely use that....
I thought that maybe there is a free App that quickly opens a blank tab next to your open tab that you are browsing..

It's amazing how the answers change when you actually provide context.

Anyway, if you open up preferneces of Safari, you will see the option I've highlighted below which will allow you to control the behavior of the new tab. Mine is set to "Favorites" and yours must be set to "Same Page"

Not sure if cmd+t works in finder, just like it does in the web browser?
Just as an FYI, you can change the New Tab/Window that opens in Finder > Preferences > General.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that myself, as said, "I often think the Finder is a bit underrated and overlooked,"

Finder is the app that lets you see things on a monitor. You use it all the time. You have to.

Again, inferring from what the OP wrote, I think they mean that they don't use tabs in Finder. It is, of course, impossible to not ever use Finder on a Mac.
