Back to my old 2.2GHz C2D MB after selling my MBP and wondering what my next Mac will be :)
It's not normal....... has it had a lot of use?
Have you tried cleaning it?
The superdrives in notebooks are known to pack up after a lot of use. Can't fit a higher quality drive into a notebook unfortunately.
As long as it's working fine, and not damaging your discs that's the main thing, but I would certainly give it a bit of a clean.
I don't use mine often, so it sounds like the day I got it.

That's right... Sorry, I remember that super duper long thread RPC :)
In that case, I wouldn't hesitate but to head in to Apple Genius bar, and get either a replacement superdrive, or MBP.
Don't let it drag on.... back up your machine, and make an appointment.
Don't forget, go in with a good attitude, and non hostile approach :)

Mine's in a macbook..... but I don't hear a peep out of it other than normal reading noises (very normal electronic like sounds).... in fact, the sound it makes is music to my ears.
This should be the same sound through all laptops with a superdrive!

I see...... it is loud when sucking in the disc, but I like the sound.
Still, worth it to go into Apple or some other Apple reseller to just hear the sound and make sure that yours isn't out of the norm.

It will make a few mechanical noises as it is receiving the disk and mounting it in order for it to start spinning, which is normal. If it's weird, take it to an Apple store and see what they say.
