superdrive DVD-R UJ-857D

Hi, i have a MBP 2.16Ghz with a superdrive MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857D, and this thing started to make some funny noises the other day, and then the drive dies, and you can hear a sound like something is catching, any how, can the drive be swopped for MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857c? and whats the difference between D and C at the end, all i use the drive for is CD, never been used to burn DVD's.
