sorry for the crap question here, but.....

do you HAVE to plug it directly into the wall or is there a cable supplied so that i can have it sit away from the wall socket?

the reason i ask is that where i plan to locate the airport is in an alcove in my living room and the sockets sit under a false floor type thing....rather than hide the airport underneath it i would just run the cable and have it sit ontop alongside the dvd/sky/modem

There is a removeable plug but by default the express does not have a cord that comes with it. I believe you can use a standard mac cord as such to connect to it - I'd have to double check that the power cord of my mbp will fit onto the end of the express.
Something like this - as I said I haven't taken the end off but I'll try to look when I get home.
Replacement AC Adapter Power Cord 65W 922-5463 - NEW - $19.95

The end of the airport express is the same as the power adapter for the macbook pro - so what I posted should work.
