I know, I know. Why haven't I upgraded at least as far as High Sierra? Well for one thing, there are things I still use in Mavericks that won't run later (iTunes 10; Hear - amazing audio enhancer; Journler - the best journalling software ever written bar none), and everything else I need runs ok and I haven't seen very much in a later OS that's "I MUST have that..."
HOWEVER.. there are two things that are exceptions to this:
1. I originally bought Parallels - the VM software - when I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mavericks, so I could play a few games and the odd other app. As well as having a 10.6.8 VM that can run concurrently in Mavericks, I also have a Sierra VM, which is necessary to:
Yeah, sometime I suppose I will upgrade to High Sierra (I have the installer) and run Mavericks as a Parallels VM... but... only if Parallels will sell me the old version of the software which I would need for High Sierra.
Just some random thoughts which 95% of you will sigh deeply and shake your head at!

- buy music from iTunes (iTunes 10 won't, not now)
- run Spotify
2. The "browser issue"... Safari 9 wouldn't work for so many sites so I gave it up years ago. Firefox 78 ESR astonishingly has run 99% of what I needed but some sites stopped working last year, most particularly video streaming sites like BBC iPlayer and Amazon Prime. OH NO. "I'll either have to upgrade the OS, or run those sites in the Sierra VM." However, I discovered a GitHub project, Legacy Chrome, which is a constantly upgraded browser that's based on the latest version of Chrome and runs in Lion, Mountain Lion, and Mavericks.Yeah, sometime I suppose I will upgrade to High Sierra (I have the installer) and run Mavericks as a Parallels VM... but... only if Parallels will sell me the old version of the software which I would need for High Sierra.
